"Right ... Let's Buy Some Water Cannon..." (Cameron)

Well, the matter is clear.  I think most of us in the UK were anticipating a coalition of some kind, but the Tories instead have an overall 15-seat majority (with the IRA not being present in Parliament).

People are asking "what happened at the last minute?" Well, I suspect that the fear and smear campaign that was perpetrated by the Tories had its desired effect. Enough people were basically scared into voting blue as they were afraid that Cameron might be right - and neither did they trust the other party leaders. "They" meaning non-Scotland voters as the Scots were clearly happy with their leader!

Max Hastings (in the Daily Mail) said words to the effect: "Thank God for the good sense of the British people". Well, I am sure "good sense" didn't come into the equation in the way he meant! Apart from that, the Mail had a good gloat about the result. Well, let them.

The fact is that if Proportional Representation had been in effect, the Tories would be struggling. As politics now stands in the UK, it would appear that it's time that PR was introduced. The majority of voters don't want Tory-ism ... period. Cameron thinks otherwise.

So with this result and with so many party leaders having resigned, there are three broad and major questions that we wait to see the answers to.
  1. In the light that Cameron has been sitting on a report he commissioned (hidden from the electorate) that details a future NHS, post-election, what will be the outcome of that? Further just where will the Tories find the 12 billions of unspecified spending cuts that they have indicated? They don't seem to know themselves, but I'm sure we have a good idea on who will get hit the hardest.
  2. Just how will Ms. Sturgeon extract from the Tory government what she wants for Scotland, bearing in mind that the Tories stand to win every Bill presented to Parliament? And if she doesn't get what she seeks, what will the SNP do?
  3. Just how will the Labour Party extract itself from the mire they are in given that their Scottish powerbase has evaporated?
With a possible (even probable) world economy collapse taking place in the next 6 to 12 months, it will be more than interesting to see what happens under Cameron. I expect to see plenty of expenditure on riot police equipment and the rapid expansion of foodbanks.

Things will get a lot worse before they get better.
